Paper maker UPM has expanded its coated mechanical range, bringing silk to magazines and catalogues.

The maker says with people “reading more” during the pandemic, print products are enjoying a high level of trust, with catalogues and advertising journals popular with consumers.

UPM Communication Papers has extended its range for web-fed printing with three new ranges with a sliky surface and claimed excellent brightness levels.

“Magazines, catalogues and advertisements printed on UPM’s high-quality papers ensure excellent reader experience, which is our top priority,” says technical customer service and product management director Atte Lindström.

“Our coated papers with non-glossy finish are appreciated for great printing results, vivid imagery and sustainability. In addition, these papers are high in bulk, which brings our customers cost advantages.”

The new offering will consist of Star silk H, Ultra silk H new and Cote silk H, with two true matt and high bulk product ranges – Star matt 1.2 H and Ultra matt 1.2 H – in the new offering.

Lindström says a big advantage for customers is that the grades can be supplied from multiple mills. He says the improved offering underlines UPM’s commitment to the graphic paper industry, “now and in the future”.
