An upgrade of 12-year-old systems on a triple-wide Colorman at TC Transcontinental follows tests with a smaller catalogue press.

After years of experience with QI Press Controls’ IDS and mRC, systems on the manroland press in Anjou, Montreal are being replaced by a full automation package from the same vendor.

Benefits including improved quality, efficiency and manufacturing cost reduction from the latest technology were demonstrated through an installation on a single-tower, single-web manroland press in an adjacent facility.

Manufacturing efficiency manager at the Anjou site, Luc Corbin had experienced the technology in California in 2008, and says a decision was taken that – with the XXL press getting older – an upgrade was necessary. “We want to maximise our product quality with maximum efficiency at minimum manufacturing costs,” he said.

The larger press will be equipped with mRC-3D cameras for cut-off, with colour and dampening will be controlled by IDS-3D cameras, supported by smart pre-setting and QI’s intelligent quality management system.
