Two Connecticut dailies have been added to Rhode Island Suburban Newspapers’ portfolio.

The sale of the Bristol Press/New Britain Herald and the Chronicle in Willimantic (pictured) has been announced by Central Connecticut Communications. The mastheads join the weekly Block Island Times which RISN acquired from the same company in February.

The two dailies – which were both founded in 1882 – are published together as a single daily newspaper. The Chronicle dates to 1877.

RISN and its affiliates operate in several states with nearby operations including the Westerly Sun, Kent County Daily Times, The Call of Woonsocket, The Times of Pawtucket, Independent and Southern RI Newspapers.

Dirks, Van Essen & April represented Central Connecticut Communications in the transaction, terms of which were not disclosed.

• Elsewhere, O’Rourke Media Group has acquired Sussex Printing Corporation in Seaford, Delaware, and The Guide from its third-generation owners.

Chief executive Jim O’Rourke says the business has a strong brand and “aligns nicely to our growth strategy” as it relates to print advertising, print and design, and digital.

O’Rourke Media Group operates in six states with a full-service digital agency and 23 publications and hyperlocal websites.

Sussex Printing was established more than 60 years ago. Grimes & McGovern represented the seller for the transaction.
