Two global managing editors are among the first speakers named for INMA’s virtual World Congress of News Media, being held from May 5-26.

They are Dagens Nyheter managing editor Anna Åberg (pictured) and Faisal Abbas, editor-in-chief of Arab News in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

The conference promises seven two-and-a-half-hour livestreams – together with video recordings and some speakers’ presentations – for package price of US$695 plus membership.

Organisers say the pandemic which “disrupted and accelerated a stalled digital and cultural transformation agenda” has led to news media companies worldwide “staring a surprising renaissance in the face”.

The magic is happening at the busy intersection of journalism, product, data, subscriptions, and advertising: New forms of engagement. Tighter and more transparent links along the value chain. More informed decisions. More sustainable revenue. Impactful storytelling for a stronger growth foundation. Smart spinoffs. A permanent embrace of innovation. Trust in processes.

“This is not your father’s media company,” says its promotional email.

The event is the 92nd annual INMA World Congress of News Media, the group’s premier annual event promising more than 20 hours of programming.

Other speakers just announced include Katharine Bailey (global head of product and design at Condé Nast, USA), McClatchy's chief revenue officer Tony Berg, and INMA's New Zealand-based newsroom initiative lead Peter Bale and smart data initiative lead Ariane Bernard.
