News Corp Australia has announced plans for a grassroots sports channel to complement regional and metro mastheads.
The KommunityTV streaming service expands a season-long partnerships with the AFL NAB League and national and regional competitions, with "a list of new content" to be rolled out over the second half of 2022.
Subscribers will be able to watch live games as well as replays, highlights and shows, from desktop and mobile, "dive deeper into every game with local-storytelling highlighting all angles from pre, during and post-game coverage, and never miss a sporting moment involving friends, family and local community", News says.
KommunityTV launches with an offering of sport content from this weekend, including Australia’s premier junior invitational basketball tournament, the National Junior Classic, as well as the Judo Australia National Championships, Victorian junior country soccer championships and the Netball SA Country Championships.
The launch will be supported by a national marketing campaign across digital, print, radio and social channels. Managing director of News' sport network Michael Wilkins describes the service as "the logical progression" for its live sport streaming programme. “We have seen more and more people turning to digital platforms to consume live sport, and know KommunityTV will be a crucial next step in this evolution of sports broadcasting."
