Chairman and publisher of the ‘New York Times’ Arthur Sulzberger Jr has joined the programme of WAN-Ifra’s 9th International Newsroom Summit, to be held in London from September 8-9.
He will talk about paid content and the importance of leveraging audience and reader engagement.
The Times has announced it will be introducing a paid model for NYTimes.com in 2011. The site will offer users free access to a set number of articles per month and then charge users once they exceed that number.
The Newsroom Summit, organised by the World Association of Newspapers and News Publishers (WAN-IFRA) and Newsplex (http://www.wan-ifra.org/newsplex) will focus on what the next generation newsroom will look like and how it will operate. Mr Sulzberger is responsible for the New York Times' long-term business strategy and runs the company's flagship enterprise on a day-to-day basis. He believes reader engagement is the future of the news business model.
