Why mobile news will change the news business

Moving the rescheduled World Editors Forum to the same venue as the IfraExpo will bring ‘theory and practice, experience and technology’ together, organisers say.

The Tablet Year – why mobile news will change the news business – is the new headline of the 17th World Editors Forum, being held in Hamburg (October 6-8) alongside the IfraExpo (October 4-6).

Director Bertrand Pecquerie says the goal is to show how new mobile platforms will give media organisations more opportunities to distribute news, engage younger readers and allow content monetisation.

“We also consider the link between the Editors Forum and the IfraExpo – where the latest content management systems will be presented – is a good opportunity for senior news executives to mix theory and practice, experience and technology,” he says.

Programme for the event is at: www.wefhamburg2010.com

Some traditional events of the newspaper congress have been added to enrich the WEF programme. These include:
• the annual World Press Trends report with all figures from 190 countries including yours (45 minute session);
• the Innovation presentation about new business models for media organisations (90 minute session); and
• the Golden Pen award ceremony (60 minute session).

Copies of the ‘Trends in Newsrooms 2010’ report (which sells for 249 euros) will be given free to forum participants.
