Who or what had the greatest influence on the global pulp and paper industry? Forest products industry information provider RISI includes Steve Jobs and the natural power behind the Chile earthquake in the top ten of its 2010 Power List.

The list is based on nominations from RISI's editors, engineers and economists, as well as from professionals and experts from within the industry. It includes leading figures from all parts of the supply chain, including paper makers, NGOs, paper buyers, suppliers, financial analysts, academics and politicians - and a number of people from outside the sector.

At the top is John Faraci, chairman and chief executive of International Paper, with Antonio Maciel Neto of Suzano, APP's Teguh Ganda Wijaya, Jose Luciano Penido of Fibria, Li Hongxin from Shandong Sun Paper, Longview Fibre's Randy Nebel, Jouko Karvinen of Stora Enso, and Kazuhisa Shinoda (Oji Paper) also in the top ten.

Apple’s Steve Jobs is at number five thanks to the potential impact of the company's new iPad and other devices on paper consumption.

And ‘Mother Nature’ makes number eight due to the impact of the earthquake in Chile on the region's mills and the repercussions in the global pulp markets.

"The past 12 months have been a challenging time for the global pulp and paper sector, making it harder than ever to pick just 50 people to include on our RISI Power List,” says RISI marketing services senior vice president Rhiannon James-van Beuningen.
