Publishers share AI solutions in new report

INMA’s second of three ‘mini reports’ on aspects of generative AI, ‘Ten problems GenAI solves for news media companies’ is available now.

The report by the organisation’s GenAI Initiative lead Sonali Verma shows how news companies are adapting to a GenAI-driven world and solving universal problems that have long been a source of concern.

Its focus is how generative AI can help improve newsroom operations, retain subscribers, and reach new audiences, delving into these topics: reaching new paying audiences; advertising and first-party data; time-pressed readers who churn; costs; finding relevant content; unhappy print customers and churn; busy audiences who struggle to read; meeting user needs; staffing; and trust.

The report is the second of three offered by INMA and Verma this year. In April, ‘How Publishers Are Using GenAI Right Now’, broke down what news media companies are doing with GenAI to improve workflow efficiency and consumer-facing products.

Free to members, this second installment looks at how news organisations around the world are leveraging AI to solve common industry problems, and includes case studies from Nikkei, Times Internet, Clarin, FAZ, Daily Maverick, OVB Media, Bild, The Washington Post, Medien Hub Bremen-Nordwest, Schibsted, DPG Media, India Today, and Der Spiegel.
