Announcing plans for a London edition later this year, Australian leisure directory publisher Broadsheet Media founder Nick Shelton has hinted at expansion into Europe.

In an interview with Mumbrella’s Lauren McNamara, the independent publisher talked of the UK capital’s “competitive media market” and that the launch might be a springboard into Europe.

With the Australian business “in great shape” – it has formatted offerings for Melbourne (pictured), Sydney, Brisbane, Adelaide, Perth and regions – Paris, Berlin, Milan, Amsterdam and Copenhagen beckon. “It gets really exciting,” he told McNamara.

Shelton will be packing the Broadsheet DNA and heading for a London launch later this year: “I’m going to go over and spend a lot of time there, we know we need to take this seriously,” he said.

Fifteen years after Broadsheet was established, and with a “really terrific” management team, Shelton says he is comfortable chasing the opportunity he sees in London, which he described as “one of the most exciting cultural centres of the world” and lacking the media attention it deserved following cuts to other publications.
