SEANG adds Gramedia plant visit to next week’s expanded conference

South East Asia Newspaper Group (SEANG) holds its third annual conference in Jakarta, Indonesia next week, with a site visit and more than twice as many delegates as last year expected.

With 85 newspaper professionals from 22 regional sites, the organization is looking forward to a successful event.

“This year, we are expecting new members from Indonesia and Laos, in addition to greater numbers from Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand,” says secretary Herman Verkerk.

A first visit to a print site has been arranged for the evening of September 21, when PT Gramedia – publisher of ‘Kompas’ and other titles – will entertain delegates. The site is close to conference venue the Sultan hotel.

The previous day includes a golf contest and social evening.

Agenda for the business sessions includes five presentations from newspaper members and eight by vendors.

A welcome to the conference will be presented by Azrul Ananda, chief operating officer of the ‘Jawa Pos’. Guest speaker is Gaby van Deventer from Goss FPS pioneer Hoekstra Boom in the Netherlands.

Other newspaper speakers are:

Jimmy Oo Ewe Kiat, SPH, Singapore; ‘Jawa Pos’, Indonesia; NSTP, Malaysia (education of newspaper printers); Vilma Julaton, Printtown, Philippines (safety and environment); and Farouq Affendi bin Mamat,Utusan Melayu (ISO in newspapers).

Two round-table sessions will provide an opportunity for user to quiz vendors, and also for delegates to discuss ideas with the SEANG committee.
