German commercial printer Baumann Druck has installed manroland's automatic cut-off control on its two Lithoman presses in Kulmbach.

The company - part of Mediengruppe Oberfranken - is the first short-grain user of the system.

Print director Marco Piskol says the greatest benefits are in reduced waste rates: "Due to cost savings, the investment has paid back in just one year," he says.

manroland says its InlineCutoff Control is the fastest cut-off register control on the market, a dynamic made possible by an additional camera that measures and controls the web directly in front of the folding knife. Folder drive systems can react to every measurement and be adjusted to ensure accurate cut-off.

According to the system configuration, customers can save more than half of cut-off waste at reel changes or single blanket washing, the maker says.

Baumann Druck installed an eight-page Octoman press in 1999, following this up with a 40-page Lithoman III in 2009 and 64-page Lithoman in 2011.
