Danish film star Ekstra Bladet is one of the subjects of a WAN-Ifra study tour, after gaining fame in a documentary film.

The newspaper is the focus of The newsroom: Off the record, which appeared in October 2014, chronicling the Danish legacy media company as it experiencing a steep print decline while diversifying and rolling out new digital products.

WAN-Ifra's study tour Newsroom meets revenue takes in publishers in Hamburg, Copenhagen and Stockholm between May 23-26.

Ekstra Bladet editor-in-chief Poul Madsen was a speaker at WAN-Ifra's Digital Media Europe event last year, emphasising the importance of monetising digital products over relying on print revenue: "Three years ago we realised that even if we had the best revenue ever, we would be out of business in seven to ten years," he said.

Since the film came out, Ekstra Bladet has launched a radio station and new digital sites, recently restructuring their newsroom and adding TV staff and a studio integrated with the news desk.

Attendees on the Nordic Study Tour will be shown how newsrooms perceive the impact of editorial analytics on paid content, and hear about their positive approaches to driving audience development.
