Two special categories in this year's World Young Reader Prize reflect the evolving media environment and the crucial need to make sure new generations fully understand the importance and fragility of freedom of expression and the role of journalists who have worked and died in its service.
They are:
'Digital First' for the news publisher activity that most creatively engages the young solely through mobile telephones, tablets and/or other digital devices. This category is supported by CCI Europe; and
'Teaching Freedom' for actions that effectively help youth understand the importance and fragility of freedom of expression and freedom of the press and teach about those who work and die in the service of these values.
The awards join the key, core Prize categories of brand (marketing initiatives), editorial (a break-through content approach), enduring excellence, news in education (supported by sitesALIVE), public service, the Natasa Prize award for printing plants and World Young Reader News Publisher of the Year.
All categories call for activities that target people under age 25.
Entries are open and accepted until May 5. For details and to register go to www.wan-ifra.org/worldyoungreaderprize.
