Growth drives technology investment

A new Miles 33 system at Champion Media will let the UK group expand operations without additional costs.

The independent publisher of eight free weekly newspapers delivers to more than 160,000 homes across Merseyside and West Lancashire.

The new system includes GN4 editorial content management system, FutureProof for advertising booking and sales, Production Tracking for ad make-up and Beacon for classified pagination and display ad advertising planning. A new online customer self-service portal, powered by SAM, is also included.

The system will link to Champion's existing websites and will allow newsroom staff to publish content directly from within GN4, with an HTML5-based GNi4 client allowing access from PCs, Macs and tablets for added flexibility.

From its base in Southport, CMG is growing steadily, bucking the negative trend seen in other newspaper markets, and it is this growth that is driving the acquisition of new generation technology.

An aggressive implementation schedule should see the entire system live by the end of this year.
