A WAN-Ifra 'super social newsroom' study tour takes publishers to media houses and pure players in New York and Washington in October.
"As the USA prepares for election year, we drop in on top newsrooms to see how they are gearing up their social strategies to serve a growing audience of users getting their election news directly from social media, now eclipsing news websites and local TV," says WAN-Ifra's Nicole Frankenhauser.
Among speakers at last week's Digital Media Europe event, Alberto Barreiro from Spanish publisher El País remarked of social media election coverage, "whoever controls the interface controls the business". Frankenhauser says that while this is a familiar feeling for publishers, many still struggle to monetise and build a loyal audience from fleeting users.
"Competition on social is fierce, and it is critical that your newsroom has the right workflows designed and implemented to accelerate your distribution strategy."
The study tour will visit the newsrooms growing on social, and hear directly from their key people on successes with monetisation strategies, audience engagement and driving traffic to their sites - all while building a loyal following.
