The ability to recognise portraits leads Elpical's Claro 11 image refinement software to new optimised treatments.
Being able to classify portrait images as such enables the software to optimise skin-tone treatment and adjustments in noise filtering and local contrast for highlights, leading to better portraits, the company says.
Claro now also detects and removes banding issues in blue skies, which may occur in heavily compressed images, and offers improved detection and removal of various types of JPEG artefacts.
Improved detection of under and over-exposed images means a higher success rate in correcting these problems, while localised treatment of key areas in images comes through more controls to include or exclude areas in images such as skin tones and blue skies, to algorithms such as local the contrast for highlights feature and the colour filter.
A new plugin for Adobe InDesign also offers the ability to enhance images inside InDesign, identifying the size of the picture box and the visible area of the images. Enhanced images fit exactly into the picture box at the exact resolution.
And one for newsrooms: If a major news event occurs, images shot within a specified range of the location where the event took place can be tagged, especially useful with user generated content.
