Systems vendor Naviga ‘back in town’ as regional opportunities arise

Almost a decade after closing its Sydney office, news systems developer Naviga is back in Australia, opening an office in Sydney’s prestigious Barangaroo.

The company originally formed when DTI and Saxotech got together in 2013 with the backing of private equity firm Vista Equity Partners, says it is expanding its presence into the Asia-Pacific market “to better meet the needs of businesses in the region with localised engagement and customer support”. No appointments have yet been announced.

Plans follow increased demand for Naviga’s products and services, it says. Earlier this year, Victorian regional publisher McPherson Media went live with a combination of content and advertising products within Naviga’s content engagement platform, enabling it to unify systems under a single vendor.

Naviga’s origins are as Newscycle Solutions, the company formed after DTI and Saxotech – which had got together a couple of years before – brought Atex AdBase and MediaSpan into an expanded partnership. Swedish developer Infomaker was added in 2018 and the company rebranded as Naviga the following. Mike Moore’s UK-headquartered Miles33 – which had itself acquired Tera and Netlinx – was added to the group last year, with subscriptioin software supplier Abacus also from the UK, acquired this year. In its time, DTI’s Asia-Pacific office is understood to have been its most profitable.

Headquartered in Bloomington, Minnesota, Naviga says the new Sydney office is the company’s eighteenth global location, and will offer its entire suite of Content Engagement Platform digital and print solutions for advertising, content management, audience engagement and digital distribution.

Longstanding chief executive Scott Roessler (pictured) says continued growth had “opened avenues” for the expansion into Asia-Pacific, and to offer localised support to customers. “We are thrilled to double down our investment to better serve our customers while expanding our reach in Southeast Asia.”
