Two Indian giants are among the top three most successful entrants in INMA’s 2024 Global Media Awards.

Times of India publisher Bennett, Coleman & Co and Jagran Prakashan helped make India – with 24 finalist entries – the second-most successful country after the US.

Stuff was also among the most successful finalists, contributing to New Zealand’s total of 11 of the 193 finalist places, while Newscorp was also prominent. Entries from Australia, Singapore and Hong Kong were also prominent in the region.

The annual competition garnered 771 entries from 245 news brands in 43 countries, and highlighted themes around the use of AI in newsroom innovation, promoting the public good campaigns, reaching younger audiences, sports, the war in Ukraine and user engagement.

Leading the finalist list were entries from the US (26), India (24), Germany (22), Sweden (16), Norway (13) and New Zealand (11), with Australia scoring six finalist entries. First-place and regional winners, and the global ‘best in show’ will be announced on April 25, when the awards are presented at London’s Victoria & Albert Museum during the INMA World Congress of News Media being held April 22-26.

The awards include 20 categories across two segments – national/international and regional – and focus on seven topic areas: excellence in news brands, media features, product, subscriptions, advertising and commerce, newsrooms, and AI.

INMA executive director and chief executive Earl Wilkinson said this year’s awards had been highly competitive: “This class of finalists represent the best in the business of news, and we are proud to champion the mission of outstanding journalism.”

Entries were judged by some 60 media experts from 23 countries, and can be viewed at INMA.org in the association’s ‘best practices’ archive, with public access to finalists
